The unique features of Photo Safe among other image management software are:

  • The functionality called "safes" allows encrypting and decrypting secret images on your computer. Images remain in their initial location, but become not-viewable for all other programs. Encryption can be done with three diferent algorithms which differ in complexity and speed. One of the options is a password protected ZIP archiving. All "safes" are password protected. Read more about safes here.

  • The unique "two panels" layout allows handy drag-and-drop operations between folders and categories and prohotvide better overview: you see images from two folders or categories at once. This layout is borrowed from popular file managers like Total Commander, Far, etc.

Photo Safe can make your image management process more simple, elegant and professional. It is integrated with Helicon Filter - the software for image editing. The two programs are good companions for image management plus image editing - all from one vendor Helicon Soft.

Helicon Photo Safe supports a lot of image formats including different RAW formats:

  • Bitmaps (bmp)
  • JPEG (jpg; jpeg)
  • JPEG 2000 (jp2)

Helicon "Safes"

Safe is a way to hide your images from others. Images which you put into a safe turn into encrypted files with *.ENC or *.ZIP extensions and remain in the same folder where they are. But it is not possible to open them in any image viewer neither to browse them in Photo Safe without knowing the password. You can choose between three algorithms for encryption/decryption.

  1. Protection against advanced users

Content of the image is encrypted based on the user password. Special knowledge and software is needed to break encryption and open the image without the password.
Pros: high speed, high level of security
Cons: potentially can be cracked by security experts

  2. Protection againts security experts

Bank-level encryption is applied so it is impossible to open the image without knowing the password.
Pros: very high level of security
Cons: slower than other methods, impossible to decrypt image if password lost and password recovery feature cannot be used for some reason.

  3. ZIP with password protection

Pros: you can open it on computers which dont have Helicon Photo Safe.
Cons: algorithms for breaking protection of ZIP files are quite popular.

Password recovery for a safe

If you lost a password to your safe, you can write an email to the Helicon Soft support (support@heliconsoft.com) and attach one of the encrypted images from your safe. The password will be sent to the email, which you specified in the properties of your safe; if you wrote to the support from a different e-mail, the password will still be sent to the e-mail which is specified in the safes properties.

Helicon Soft owns a unique private key which allows us to decrypt any file encrypted with Photo Safe. We use this key only to recover lost passwords and do not disclose it to anyone.
