Photographer's grey card

Unread postby dogcatcher » 27.02.2013 20:00

I shoot all my insects for stacking on photographer's grey card background. After fiddling around with the subject with Helicon the background card is, as one would expect, no longer the same shade of grey. Is there a way to restore a background to 18% grey, or could you provide a small colour chart in Filter or maybe a grey background in Montage. Presently I have to hold a card to the computer screen to try to ensure that WISIWIG and it doesn't always work! Any suggestions gratefully received.

Why can't you just change exposure in Helicon Filter or other editor till the RGB values of the grey background are equal to required level (255*0.18)?

Being ignorant of the finer points of Helicon Filter I never knew that, I'll try it. Maybe I should re-read the guide.

When in Helicon Filter, go to Brightness tab and hold mouse pointer over background. Histogram will show RGB values under mouse pointer.
