Interface HF to a 3D printer

Unread postby George Langford » 10.09.2014 17:40

Many times I have been called upon to explain microscopic objects to clients, jurors, etc. and flat pictures just do not do those objects any justice.

It occurred to me the other day that the stacked images from a microscope could be used to make a replica of the microscopic object that could be passed around to an audience. Three-dimensional printers make polymeric objects, but a profiling machine (such as once was used to make watch parts) could convert the plastic model to a metal one which would be more durable.

Can the images of an HF animation be exported to a 3D printer by HF or in a post-processing application from the HF animation file ?

Helicon 3D Viewer is able to save OBJ files which is commonly used for 3D applications. So you should have not difficulties to convert it or use directly for 3D printing.
