Hello,
I am looking to start macro photography with Helicon Focus and I am looking for the right lens for the D800.
I do not want to spend that much for the 200 Micro Nikon, I am thinking to purchase a Nikon 105 F2.8 Micro, but I have read in KenRockwell and in other forums that "The 105mm VR is not particularly convenient for dedicated macro because focus breathing causes the image size to change as one focuses." so I wonder what could be the effect in Helicon Focus if shooting with this lens produces images of different sizes when changing focus.
Pls can you give me feedback, and also which lens would you recommend for the D800 to shoot macro (except the 200 Micro Nikon)?
Thanks very Much
Gionni

We have 105 lens in office and often use it for tests. Helicon Focus automatically compensates for magnification change which is inevitable for all of the lens. I am not big expert in lens but I remember Nikkor 105 is one of the best macro lens available. I can only assure you that it will work fine with both Helicon Remote and Helicon Focus.

Thank you Stas,
what do you (and the forum) think of the Tokina Macro 100 2.8 ? I've read several good reviews. As it extends, shouldn't it have less focus breathing?
thanks and regards

We do not have Tokine ourseft but we know about problems with 3rd party lens. Some lenses do not perform focusing steps at all, some are missing focusing steps which are sent from Helicon Remote. I cannot tell for sure if that lens is subject for such problem, but it would test it with Helicon Remote before purchasing it.

Gionni, I've been using the Nikon 105 mm F2.8 on my D600 for macro work for the past three years now, i usually pair it with a 12mm extension tube and raynox 250 diopter, SB700 flash and am always shooting in manual. Lens is great, the whole combination works extremely well, focusing is not an issue. what i particularly like about the lens is how it allows me to have some distance between myself and the subject along with the weight factor, i find it is nicely balanced with the camera and flash....

Interested in the 12 adapter that Nikon reports is not suitable and the magnifying front lens attachment,
Could you reply with photographs of such a system with Helicon focus bracketing.
