A B points saved, lens does not move focus in 'take images'

Post by MR H »

Hi,
new to the software so shout if its a user error!

First run went fine.

Next 7 runs all had the same issue.

Select and save A point, do the same for B point, I can run the focus between A and B by the 'goto' focus point and thats all fine.

BUT when I start to shot the sequence the lens focus does not move

Any ideas?
Tried several power cycles of the camera (Canon 5D mk3 with 180 marco L series lens)

Every time I switch the camera on canon "EOS Utility" auto starts, Im pn a PC with Windows 8.1 - anyone know how to stop the auto start? I don't need it.

Kit
Canon 5D mk3
Canon 180mm Macro L
HP Lap top win 8.1

Thank you for your help,
Andy.

Hi Andy,

That's certainly not a user error. See if image review is enabled in the camera body settings. If it is - that's the problem, turn it off.
There's a Preferences button in the EOS Utility pop-up window, and there on Basic Settings page is the "Start EOS Utility automatically" checkbox. Make sure to close EOS utility before launching Remote.

RE EOS Utility - I couldnt see that chaeck box (It might be there)....
I found in win 8.1 the EOS icon in the pop up box of active in background items, right click that and select the 'do nothing' instead of Launch.
Hope that bit is a help to others as I found loads of the same question via google but no answer that suited - most are 2009 ish questions. Thank you for above option.

I'm playing with Helicon Remote and will report back, thank you for your help.

Image review was set to 'on' and '4 seconds'

I would like to understand why that needs to be off - just to improve my understanding.

Switched it off, will set up and see what happens.

Just to note - the first run of about 11 images ran fine, all the others failed to step, the first run had the 4 sec review on.

I don't know the Canon engineers' reasoning behind this, but the camera ignores some commands (including focus-related ones) while review is in progress.
