Color Correction

Post by jimshirey »

is there any software out there that can "equalize" the color distributions between two otherwise identical images? this problem comes up when i'm running a stack and the cloud thickness changes or a haze goes over the sun. this can totally ruin a stack and it's impossible to make adjustments by hand.

Helicon Focus automatically adjusts brightness of images in a stack (see Preferences/Autoadjustment).

brightness is not the problem. the problem is color value. when a cloud crosses the sun, everything shifts from warm colors to cooler ones. when the cloud passes by, everything goes back. i can make some brightness adjustment myself by keeping an eye on the exposure meter, but adjusting for temperature is impossible in a large stack.

It is recommended to set all camera settings to manual (focus, ISO, time, WB) to avoid such variations. The only solution I can see is to use method C, it should give better result that A or B.
