Edge sensitivity

Unread postby Ariel » 21.02.2007 01:59

After doing Replace sky/background, the edge sensitive should treat the painted in background and the subject as a whole - it currently bases the edge sensitivity on the picture before the sky/background was painted in.

And the color tolerance/brightness threshold for edge sensitivity should modifiable in a whole new "Edge sensitivity" section of scroll bars (in expert mode). And you should be able to change the relative size of the center circle for edge sensitivity. (And is this a bug?: I see no difference between 100% and 50% edge sensitivity.)

Relating to replace sky/background:
Maybe there should be a replace background tab.

Furthermore, there should be an option, without opening specific images, to paint over background or around subject with a solid color, so that it can be more easily made. Then a background can be selected to take the place of that solid color. (Note that the background should fill in the new painted areas - it should not process based on click location, as that might lead to part of the subject being painted over improperly or an incomplete insertion of the background.)

What's more, the brush should be named Replace background (not sky) or maybe even Paint from image. And the background folder which comes with the program should not only be skies. Maybe include mountains, trees, blurred backgrounds, whatever. (Yes, I know that you can choose your own picture, but why should the main folder be just one thing?) And instead of "Horizon level", there should be vertical and horizontal stretch/squeeze for the background image (or subject being painted in).

Ariel, this brush is not the proper solution for merging images. We do not modify current Helicon Filter as we plan big update with changes in the structure of the program. This will also include creation of selections and operations similar to layers in photoshop. We are now thinking how to make it intuitive and preserve functionality.

Why don't you make a layers tab, where you can make and move layers, insert text and maybe graphic layers, and have options like cool color effects for individual layers. Then, in the other tabs, you could have a layer selector and smart outline selector for having different effects in those specific areas.

Wow Dan, those features you are planning for the next release sound very impressive and should make it a one-stop solution for much of our work :)
