Canon 7D Mark i and WFT-E5A

Post by EZPikins »

Cannot connect wireless

Canon 7D with Canon WFT-E5A
Created AdHoc on computer (Windows 7 pro)
Turned off all auto-plays.
quit all EOS software, including pair icon.
On camera: selected AdHoc and went to "pair"
Started Helicon Remote.
Tools/Network Cameras.

No camera in list.
If I paired with EOS Utility, Unknown Camera displays in HR list of network cameras, but when I click on it I get a wait icon for a few seconds and it doesn't select.

It shouldn't appear in Tools -> Network cameras, that is the function you can use to specify your camera's address manually if automatic detection doesn't work. Instead, you should look for it in "Select a camera", and it sounds like the camera is detected, but something goes wrong when the application tries to actually communicate with it.
First of all, please install the latest version of the program and see if the error still occurs: https://www.heliconsoft.com/downloads/HeliconRemote.exe
If it does, send a bug report some 10 seconds after trying to select the camera (menu -> Help -> Report a bug).

I'm sorry, I meant to say "Select a Camera" instead of "Network Cameras". I did send a bug report, but it was not 10 seconds after. I will do that as soon as I can. I just bought Helicon Focus (6.8.0 pro) and Remote (ver. 3.9.5 W) a couple weeks ago.

I sent another bug report, this time using Infrastructure (using a wireless router). Same thing: camera appears in Select Camera, but when clicked -> wait icon then not selected.
I purchased the WFT-E5A about 2 weeks ago and have less than 2 weeks to return it if I can't get it to work with Helicon Remote. Being a software engineer with over 30 years experience, I know you guys are busy.

We don't understand what happens, this is a unique kind of error that we've never seen before.
Can you try the same on any other computer? Or an Android or iOS mobile device? I'd like to know whether the error is specific to this particular computer.

I have a laptop running windows 7 pro that I do not expose to the internet. I did try the same sequence of events on the laptop and got the same results. I appended the bug data below for the laptop.

Am I missing something? I use auto-settings.

On different computer, laptop running windows 7 pro
Tried to connect via HR. Works with Canon EOSUtilities
HR shows camera in "select Camera", when clicked get a wait icon then camera not selected

We've studied this log and we're puzzled by it. We will add extra verbosity to the program log in order to better see what's going on, and we'll send you a new special version of the program tomorrow.
