Canon EOS 80D

Post by tekfix »

I just bougt Helicon remote and tried to connect to my new 80D. It tells me it's an unsupported camera!

When do you release support for the 80D?

Ok, looking forward to it. Hope it does not take too long - I would very much like to start using HR... :P

The new version of Helicon Remote is available on our website as of today.

I downloaded this version today and, unfortunately, it does not work with my 80D. It opens Live View but that is all. Live view toggle, focus controls etc. are all inoperative. Eventually I get a message that Remote has timed out waiting for an image from my camera.

Unplug the camera from USB. Reset the camera body settings. Then activate live view and set AF mode for live to regular single-shot (not servo or AI or continuous). There are separate modes for LV and non-LV operation, so you do need to turn LV on first to access the corresponding mode. Then try again.
If it still doesn't work, reproduce the problem and submit a bug report.

Thank you. I tried that but I still had the problem, so I have sent in a bug report.

Unfortunately, my problems are identical. I did file a bug report a minute ago.

What's the latest for the 80D?

Would it be the same whether from laptop or phone?
thanks

It'll be the same. 80D and 1D X Mk II are not yet supported by Helicon Remote. We can't say when they will be. Since we don't have either of these bodies, we'll have to try a couple ideas through trial and error.

OK.

Am trying an 80D and a 700D, and getting the same symptoms.
Software says live view is switched off, then it times out.

EOS Utility works on both, by the way - same laptop, lead, etc. I see it fires up Ver 2 for the 700d and Ver3 for the 80d.

There should be no problem with 700D, it's confirmed to work. If it doesn't work for you, that's a different issue from 80D and it can be fixed. Reproduce the problem and send us the bug report - after checking the usual suspects (set silent release off, exposure mode to M/Av/Tv, video recording mode off, and make sure no other camera-related software is running).

I think it started to work once but can't get it going again.
It would help if there were adequate instructions - there aren't. EOS Utility always starts for me. Is that right? Turning it off doesn't make HR work. I don't know what I should be seeing.

I pm'd a couple of people with Stackshots on a macro forum. Can't find anyone who has had success with Helicon/ H Remote.
Sometimes you get a live view image, often it says live view is off, but you can't turn it back on, or you can fire the shutter and just get the one image immovable on the screen.

Have sent bug reports - no acknowledgement.
