Trouble Focusing with Sigma 105mm

Post by girlygurl761 »

Used Helicon Remote for the first time today. My first set of pictures did well. 40 images w/ 2 steps between them. My second set of images, not so much.

The lens would not move from it's autofocus position at all. It didn't matter if I used big steps, medium steps or little steps. It would move and then snap right back to the previous autofocus setting

Quick review is off in the camera
Lens is set to autofocus
Lens is set to Full
Exposure simulation is off as well

I even tried focusing in manual mode and then turning on autofocus. Nope, didn't work either. Anyone else have this issue

I'm using a Canon 60D with a Sigma 105mm lens.

Yes and no, it would try to move the focus and then snap right back to where it was before. I had it set up to highlight the focused areas and I could see it start to move, but then it would go back to the original area.

That sounds like servo / continuous AF. Must be single shot.

Thank you,

I know it wasn't on Servo, but I'll check to see if it's on continuous autofocus.

I plan on taking some pictures later this week. I'll let you know if that worked.

I initially had this problem with this lens (Sigma 105mm) with my Canon EOS 6D. I found that by ensuring that Canon EOS Utility was switched off in Windows Task Manager in under the Processes Tab then both the lens works well (AF) and Live View functions on the Helicon Remote GUI (graphical user interface). Hope this is of some help.

You absolutely cannot have more than one camera control program running at any time or all kinds of weird problems will occur.
