Connecting to Nikon D7200

Post by chpcrvr » 24.11.2015 02:35

Hi,
I've been working with Stas on this but I thought I would open it up to anyone for help. I just bought a new Nikon D7200 and cannot connect to HR. I can establish a wifi connection between my android phone and the camera but not a HR connection. Works fine with a wired connection. I've used the process published at various locations on the forum. Here is a short video showing what is happening. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Jeff

Hi Jeff,

You did everything perfectly fine, except for one little mistake: you've seen the IP address 192.168.1.2 in the connection properties in Android, which is YOUR IP address, i. e. your phone's, and entered it is the camera's address. So you were trying to connect to yourself instead of the camera. It's the same effect as if you entered 127.0.0.1. Note that we did mention our my instructions that the typical address of the camera is 192.168.1.1. So, go to Helicon Remote network camera's settings and change 1.2 to 1.1, it should do the trick.

I've noticed that there's an issue with the camera not showing up under "Select a camera" list. That's odd, I never seen it happen before, and we'll certainly try to find and fix this issue for the next update.

Looks like there is an ip conflict with my router. I used a network diagnostic app to look at my network ip addresses. I took camera and phone out away from my house and it connected and worked fine.

Not sure what to make of it. Please tell us if you manage to find the root cause of the problem.

After doing some research and testing it turns out that Nikon uses 192.168.1.1 as the IP address in their cameras. Unfortunately, that is also the default IP address that Linksys uses for their routers. So I had a conflict between my camera and my Linksys router.

I used Nikon's WMU program to change IP addresses in the D7200. I changed the DHCP Server IP Address from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.2.1. And I changed the DHCP Client IP address from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.2.2.

After I did that and restarted everything Helicon Remote now works fine with my D7200 in the house.

I don't quite understand what the problem was. In order for two devices to have an IP address conflict, they have to be on the same network. Did you connect your camera to the router instead of direct connection between the camera and your phone?
