I had it working but now....
Liveview works
Preview works
Focusing works
The destination folder on the tablet for the (JPEG) images exists, the raw files are not being downloaded to the tablet.
So HR is communicating with the camera.....
However, when I try to actually take an image (single frame or focus stack) I get a generic message "failure to communicate with camera" (paraphrased).
(The full message is "Camera Error <new line> the program detected error while communicating with the camera. Report a bug.....")
Shutting down the camera, HR and the tablet does not solve the problem. All cables have been checked.
What exactly does this message mean?
Any obvious solution?

As you've already noticed, the message is generic because it can mean a thousand different things. We need you to send a bug report so that we could see what is wrong.

Bug Report just sent. Refers to this thread for details.
Pl confirm receipt.

Confirmed. Let's continue the discussion by e-mail. Forum is most inconvenient for dealing with technical issues, that's not what it's meant for.
