Samsung Tab S 8.4" (with new Amoled display)

Post by mountaineer »

I need to buy an Android tablet to use Helicon Remote with my D800E (as I understand the Iphone will not do). The new 8.4 inch. Samsung Tab S tablet with its 2560 X 1600 Amoled display looks great!

Stas, do you expect that Tab S tablet to work with Helicon Remote if I use the USB cable to connect the D800E to the tablet ? I would like some reassurance before buying it.

I have used the Samsung Tab Pro 8.4 and the Nikon D800 and it works.
However, due to Nikon's implementation of Live View the image in HR is either high def but very small. If full screen is selected it is very low resolution and at least I cannot determine good focus. I have to trust on AF and HR and I cannot use manual focus lenses for the same reason.
The new Nikon D810 and D750 have good Live View implementation and the image will show large and with excellent resolution.

Nikon cameras have pretty low resolution: 640 x 480. If you disable scaling, this image will only occupy a small fraction of the screen, especially if it's a retina screen (individual pixels are very small). And, of course, if you stretch this small picture to fit the entire screen, you will now clearly see that it is, in fact, very low resolution. There's no software bug here.
We have not tested D810 or D750, but according to docs they still have the same clasic Nikon resolution of 640x480.
