Hi there, I just bought a Galaxy Tab 3, downloaded and direct-installed Helicon Remote3, and connected it to my Canon 5DM3 via the USB OTG Adaptor. Helicon Remote doesn't recognize the camera. Is this normal? Does HR work with the Galaxy Tab 3? If not, can you recommend a tablet that it does work with? I'm quite new to Android and any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Mark Smith

Re: Galaxy Tab 3 w USB OTG Not Recognizing Camera
Hello Mark,
It should work with Galaxy Tab 3, but I can't say for sure. Is there any indication that Android itself detects the camera? Any pop-up message when you plug the camera in?
If not, try connecting a USB mouse instead of the camera. Does a cursor appear on the screen?

Re: Galaxy Tab 3 w USB OTG Not Recognizing Camera
After reading that the Galaxy Tab 3 removed USB mode support, I've switched to using a Nexus 7, and HR still won't recognize the camera. The camera is recognized with HR on Mac OS, just not Android.
I did try a usb mouse on the Nexus 7, and the curser does appear.
Any other thoughts?
Thank you,

Is it the new Nexus 7? Android 4.2 or 4.3?
Does Android itself detect the camera?
By the way, what did you find out about Galaxy Tab 3? Is there no USB host at all, or just no support for digital cameras?

Brand new Nexus 7, with Android 4.3
Android doesn't detect the camera. Meaning, nothing happens when I connect the camera to it.

Nothing happens means our app is not to blame, it's Android configuration issue.
We've heard it can be fixed by rooting the tablet.

Thanks, I am googling what rooting the tablet is now...
Re: Galaxy Tab 3 w USB OTG Not Recognizing Camera
On the Nexus 7 2 USB Host is dependent on the Nexus Media Importer app being installed. If that app is not installed, install it.
Once you have the app installed, try again. If it doesn't work, try this: Power off the tablet and the camera. Connect the camera to the tablet and turn the camera on. Now power on the tablet. Upon boot up, the tablet should now recognise the camera is attached and you should get a popup screen asking if you want to use the USB device.
