Focusing with Live View 5DM2

Post by KBStudio »

I am shooting with external strobes (not Canon) using the modeling lamps to set the near and far focus points. However, when I activate Live View from Helicon Remote the image is too dark to focus. I have checked Live View on the camera's LCD and there is enough light. It seems that Helicon Remote stops down to the set f stop when Live View is turned on. Is there a work around this?

In rethinking this problem, I have come to realize that this is essential for Helicon Focus to determine the focus interval. If Helicon Focus were to set Live View to wide open, it could not determine the proper amount to move the lens to achieve the focus range with the given f stop. So I guess I will just have to remember to change the shutter speed back to 1/160 each time and not leave it at 8 -13 seconds.

Please check if DOF preview checkbox is set. And check Live View/Exposure simiulation mode in your camera. These settings define how th camera deals with low light conditions in Live View mode.
