What is limited in Helicon Remote

Post by leereichel »

I am using the demo version and it detects my camera (D3s) and I can get results using manual mode. In automode I save the nearest focus and the farthest focus but when I try to use the Focus Control the only choice is 'Highlight focused area' which works fine. I cannot check the DOF preview option nor can I get the focus to change by selecting the small or big step towards the camera or towards infinity. Also there is an hourglass icon always on and I cannot exit the program. Are these features not available in the demo mode? I have tried my D3s and D300 camera and the result is the same. The camera is in manual mode and when I change the f-stop or shutter speed I can see the effect immediately.

Please open Helicon Remote, Preferences and send us console logs after this error. We will try to understand the problem. We tested the program with D300 and did not have such issues.

I retraced my steps. Tried it with both a D300 and a D3s camera. I set the the camera to manual and the lens to manual focus; I am using a Nikon 105mm macro lens at f8 and also at f5.6. The camera is set on a tripod and I can see the effects of my manually focusing the lens. If I try focus bracketing nothing changes. I can get the slider to move but with no changes happening on screen. When I check the log of the current session I see a whole series of:

CNikonCamera: driveLens, FAILED: can`t set MF drive step

this happens with both the D300 and D3s. A sample from the log is:

CSdkBase: notified about started session
CSdkBase: startSessionByCameraPtr(camera=0x018a4008), end
CSdkBase: notified about added camera
CNikonCamera: driveLens, begin

The software is trying but cannot do anything. Hope this helps to find a solution. Also I manually focus to the farthest pint on the object(tabletop setup) and I record this and then I focus on the nearest point. I choose 'New stack' and when I select 'Start shooting' the hourglass icon appears and the program goes into limbo. If I turn the camera off I can exit otherwise it stays in limbo.

Please set the lens to auto focus.
