Categorization

Unread postby den_bout » 26.09.2012 11:58

Hello

I started using Helicon Photo Safe and I am struggling to enter multiple categories for the same photo. I want the procedure is as follows:

After an event, place "valid" photos in categories corresponding to that event
Place pictures selected in step 1 in the categories of relevant people (one or more).

I have no problem for step 1, but for step 2, I can not select from step 1. I have to start from the full set of photos (valid and invalid)

Is there a way to add a category from an existing one?

Please

Denis

You mean, to be able to view category in one panel and be able to drag images to another panel with different category?

As far as I remember there was some technical problem to implement this. I let it check again and implement it if possible.

In fact, actualy, it can be pretty close except that the image is not added to the new category but it is moved to the new category (without staying in the former). I would like to have the choice between "cut and copy".

Hi

Any chance that having a photography in more than one category is possible now?

Category in Helicon Photo Safe is like a virtual collection. That means that one file on the disk can be included into several categories without making additional copies on the disk.

If you have problems having one photo in several categories, please let us know how to reproduce it.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I did not state my question properly. Is there a way to retrieve photographs that match the union of two categories. For example is I have Christmas as a category and have categories for two children say Alex and Erin, can I retrieve just the pictures of Alex at Christmas?

Yes, your are right, there is no way now to combine these two conditions. I will discuss this point internally to implement it in the next versions.

...and it'd be neat if Categories were included in Grouping / Filtering / Search: http://www.heliconsoft.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=4537

I doubt we can add this to Filters because of database design. It should be no problem to do this with Search though.
