My final results have been coming out with significantly increased contrast compared to the originals. I've mostly used the default parameters (8-4).

Is this "normal?" If not, could you tell me how to avoid this outcome?

Dane,

The program should not change the contrast. Please disable autoadjustment of brightness in Preferences and try again.

If this does not help, I would need sample image to test it locally.
