Question for Mac users

Post by MikeCT »

I capture my stacks on an external drive connected to my MacBook Air, and then take the drive home to process the files using Focus on my iMac. Sometimes I will process files at work, on the MacBook, and find that both machines take exactly the same time, even though the iMac should be 3-5 times faster. In both cases I place the files on the computer's hard drive, so it is not because transfer from the external drive is limiting the speed. Does anyone have a similar problem, or an explanation/solution?

Many thanks

Perhaps, the two computers are not as different in performance as you think? Post the CPU model and speed listed in the "About this Mac" dialog for both systems and we'll see.

MacBook 1.4Ghz Intel Core i5, 4GB RAM, Intel HD Graphics 5000 1536 MB
iMac 3.5 Ghz Intel Core i7, 16 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4096 MB

I have talked with Apple technical support and they say the iMac should be 3-5 times faster, especially with graphics processing.

Each machine takes roughly the same time to process a stack: 21 images on MacBook 4 minutes 44 seconds, iMac 4 minutes 36 seconds.

Can we have one image of those 21? Over 4 minutes sounds extremely long, could be an issue there.

Please try this version of Helicon Focus and see if it's any faster: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B_uKr ... DVDekkzM3c

No real change, maybe 10% faster. Is this problem unique to me, or is it a more general Mac problem?

Maybe there was one other similar complaint, but it's definitely not something common or wide spread. Sorry, I have no idea what's going on at the moment.
