Panasonic FZ50 and RAW with Beta 4.50

Unread postby titojim » 01.12.2006 12:09

The pictures RAW are different with Helicon 4.50 beta ( less contrast, less colors, and a little red, dull ) than those with UFRAW . Is there any adjustment?
Thanks

In the Preferences you can experiment with the RAW development settings.

I would appreciate if you could upload sample RAW file to our ftp server:

Problem with Panasonic Raw

Unread postby Losco » 02.03.2007 17:42

Hi !
I've downloaded the last version of Helicon (4.5).
I cannot open the Panasonic RAW images.
But they are visible as thumbnails on the right column.

I've uploaded a sample to : ftp://web10f6:123456@helicon.com.ua/
(Raw from Mario).

Thanks !
Mario

Mario,

Thanks for the sample raw file. We will update Helicon Filter with new raw module in the next 2 weeks, then this RAW type will be fully supported.

Best regards,

Danylo

Unread postby Losco » 04.04.2007 17:50

Hi Dan,
Is there any news for the Panasonic Raw module ?
I would like to buy a licence, but I need to be sure the Panasonic is fully supported.
Greetings
Mario

Strange, I'm using Version 4.50.5 Release date Jan.16th.2007, and it works OK for my RAW files, from Panasonic FZ50, and Minolta A200, as did the previous beta version.

For me Helicon Filter is good, only wish the user could decide the order of processing, instead of the save to TIF and do it again.

Any news on the Version 5 date for release please?

Thanks..
KT

Version 5: We are developing it parallel to supporting existing version. We plan to release 4.60 version with DCRAW engine integrated this week.

Order: Do not save to tiff. on the Save tab use Apply more filters button to apply more filters to the result. It has the same effect as saving to tiff and opening it again.

Hi Dan, thanks for the tip, seems I've been wasting some of my time. Will try that on my next session.

Does this DCRAW engine improve on the present RAW processing, as I'm happy with the conversion and processing now, for my Panasonic FZ50 RAW files, I find it very good.

Thanks for your continuing help and advice for users.

You will be able to choose between current coverter and DCRAW. Some RAW types can be converterd better with DCRAW.

Thanks Dan. I'm sorry but I still don't seem able to follow your advice re your previous answer.

My problem is related mainly to cropping and resizing. If I first crop an image, and then want to resize it smaller for Web usage, I find I have to save to a tif/jpg file, and then resize.

Please understand, I am not complaining, as I do get my final desired result.

Thanks.

It is not convinient to save tiff to crop or resize it later.

In Helicon Filter you can select crop area on Resize tab and set new target resolution at the same time.

Why do you need to save the result first?

If you need two results (full resolution and web resolution), you can create full resolution image first, then switch to Resize tab, set resizing options (e.g. max size = 800 px) and save web resolution image.

Sorry Dan, something I'm doing wrong probably. I've tried the process you mention, but either the crop doesn't crop, or the resize doesn't resize. One of these operations seems to cancel out the other.

I've a couple from todays shoot, which I shall try later this evening. If I can get it to work I shall be very pleased, if not, I'll try to let you know my sequence of operation. Perhaps you can then put me right.

I thank you for your help, and advice.

Sorry Dan, last posting was mine, hadn't logged-in.

I could not get crop and resize to operate together, without the save, and apply more filters. Due I think to the crop changing the original aspect ratio, and the asking for a resize keeping aspect ratio, just didn't work, as HF tried to retain the original aspect ratio, whereas I wanted the ratio of the crop retained. Hope you can follow my description.

OK, I retried, and after a while I thought to try the bottom tab, at right, after save, "Apply more Filters", yes it worked perfectly with that option. How I've missed that previously, I don't know, must get my eye-sight checked.

Thanks again, for your patience, and help.

Please have a look at the attached print screen.

I've set target size (100x67) and then cropped the image (selected area with mouse)
