Hehe, thanks. I do like using Helicon over the other programs.

Okay, I'll change the note...

About a Mapping column, I don't know. Isn't mapping where the program figures out where there is dust? What does that have to do with sharpening and noise reduction?

Well, I've tried a little bit of Photoshop, GIMP, Pixel, Picasa, and more of Picture it!, but I do like Helicon Filter the most. Great abilities, user friendly, you know.

Mapping:

Maybe I should find better words, maybe it is too late : )

1. There is a "Show map" button on noise, sharpening, aberration filters which shows areas affeted by the current filter.

2. There is a "Dust map" feature in Helicon Filter and Focus which allows to use special image to substract dust point from the image.

Do many raster graphics editors have the edit effect map feature? I don't know of others that do, and if it is unique to Helicon, I don't think I should make a new column for it.

I agree. The structure should be uniform for all editors.

This Show map feature is very useful to me. It is with Helicon Filter that I really felt I have control over sharpening & noise reduction.

I have Photoshop elements and entering values for amount, threshold and radius is very abstract to me. Judging the effect of moving the slider on the original picture or entering values does not give an accurate idea of the sharpening effect as on a Map.

Same for noise reduction. The Show map shows areas affected by the filter even in areas that are very dark.

Suppose this "Show map" is unique to Helicon filter, I believe we must emphasize this feature by adding a column for it. But then we have to find whether other editors have an equivalent to "Show map"

I don't think that we can put a column for every great feature about every program, else there would be a column for built-in image libraries, a column for creating graphics, a column for creating panoramas, and so on. Only a couple programs would say "yes" to each column then, and it would be too wide. I did mention in the Filter article itself, though, about the maps.

But that doesn't mean you're not free to make the column yourself in wiki. Everyone is allowed to edit it.

You know what, John? I added a special example of the maps to the Helicon Filter article just for you.

I would appreciate it if people would check those articles I was editing for accuracy and change them as needed. I did my best, but nobody's perfect, and I don't know everything about the programs.
