Helicon Filter 5 & DCRaw

Unread postby colinbm » 23.12.2012 13:18

I use Sigma cameras & I want to open the raw X3F files with DCRaw, how is this done Please ? I have downloaded Helicon Filter 5.
I am useing my Sigma DP2 without the hot mirror for UltraViolet photography with an AstroDon UV filter. I have been told that DCRaw is best to open these X3F files.
I am a newby to post-processing :(
Cheers

If I understand your question correctly, you need to select the RAW converter in the Settings menu in HF 5. (latest verrsion is ver. 5.1.2 released on Dec. 17, 2012). Click Settings (or Ctrl-K) and select the RAW tab. Then click the Method drop down box and select DCRaw as your method of conversion. If this doesn't work, try the other methods until you find the one that works best for you. I don't shoot with Sigma cameras so I can't be more specific.

Thanks very much JP....
Yes it is under 'Settings', Preferences, RAW, Method....scroll down to DCRaw :D
Lots to learn, but this gets me on this track.

Glad you like HF. It's one of the few software products that can currently handle my Canon G15 RAW images - other than Canon's DPP, which I don't care for. Check out some of the Help videos on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=helicon+filter&oq=helicon+filter&gs_l=youtube.3..0.1331.4989.0.5731.16.10.1.5.5.0.101.872.9j1.10.0...0.0...1ac.1.wzpo1OVQvzA

Thanks again JP.....
I have lots of tutorials to keep me busy over the holidays now :D
Sigma uses a Foveon sensor & its RAW processor is only geared to process visible light. It can handle InfraRed light reasonably OK, but with UltraViolet light its processing gets a bit cockoo. The DCRaw in Helicon Filter has handled the UV only light very capably.
Cheers
