Camera raw format vs. jpeg format

Unread postby rmsturm » 15.06.2011 06:46

Hi,
I usually shoot in camera raw format. Helicon Soft saves the combined picture in PSD format and not camera raw format. Since pictures will be combined, is it better to shoot in jpeg rather than camera raw format?

Thanks in advance,
Bob

Hello Robert,

It is not possible to save raw file, only camera can produce raw file. JPEG file is lossy and stores information at 8 bits per channel. So if you process raw files and want to preserve maximum information, I recommend you to use TIFF format. It is lossless and allows to save with 16 bits per channel.
