New version 5, when?

Unread postby trondeh » 02.12.2008 09:49

Hi!

I was hoping I could put the new version 5 under my tree this year :-) Can you drop some hints when we will see the new version?

Ariel,

We published 4.0 version for Mac a couple of weeks ago. I did not send newsletter to our users because there are still some bugs which will be fixed in the comind days.

Wow, Cool! I don't see it on the site (but I could wait for the bugfix), but it's awesome that there's now a Mac version from this program. Up to a few weeks ago, there were only two main things that made me want to keep on Windows: Picasa and Helicon Filter. Picasa has been released for Mac, and now Helicon! HOORAY!!!!!!!!!

So, is v5 development halted?

Unread postby trondeh » 24.03.2009 11:35

Hi!

Where is the promised version 5? Have you stopped the development or is it still in the pipeline?

I find it strange that you do not give us some hints of what to come and when you are planning on starting the alpha/beta test program, unless you have actually abandoned the development.

No, we did not stopped of course! The problem is as with the many IT projects - it always lasts 3 times longer than estimated :(

I hote to have ready for beta testing in a month.

So... is there a beta for me to test yet, or do I have to wait two more months.

new version

I bought HF because of the announced new version. Now I`m tired for waiting much longer. I think Photoshop Elements 7.0 will also do a good job. I`ll download a testversion and after another 30 days I will probably say goodbye to Helicon Filter. Pity!

Well I think that even HF 4.5 is way better than Elements. Although it has been like forever... hopefully 5.0 will be released in those 30 days.

But what I really want is a Mac version. Picasa 3 now has retouching abilities and its other editing tools have improved too. And it does sort of have a multi-exposure tool even. So now I'm only using HF by launching Windows for the more advanced professional edits I do, but I'd REALLY, REALLY like a Mac version.

Welll is Helicon Filter now dead or what?

Unread postby trondeh » 06.08.2009 10:26

As of writing, we are now in August and still no sign of a new version. There is also no updated version to support new cameras that have arrived since March.

In my view it seems that this company has abandoned Helicon Filter. I guess they have been using their limited resources on their flag-ship product Helicon Focus. However, I think they should be clear with the users if there will ever be a new version and if so present a realistic time schedule. If HF is indeed been dropped, they should stop selling the "Unlimited license", continuing doing so is rather dishonest...

I do hope that HF is not dead and that there are still development going on and that my mistrust is based on "false evidence" due to bad customer communication from the company.

I have the impression Helicon is working also on "non-consumer" products, technical projects, custom software solutions, etc...
Perhaps Helicon Filter has to wait a bit until such a project is finished.

In general we cannot complain about RAW file updates, AFAIK.
We all like new toys, but HF is pretty great already.

Unread postby amitourlo » 08.08.2009 18:56

- does Helicon have financial problems or human capacity problems ?
- does Helicon have some technical problems with the v5 development ?
- what are the priorities of development between Filter, Focus, Safe ?
- We all need some informations
Thank you
