Re: Focus Stacking shot time interval
Hi Chris, there is a specific setting for this in Preferences, I use the following ( for 50D with studio flash and 2 x 580 EX II ). Pause for Flash recharge 3 secs Pause between focus steps 300 ms Auto Focus time N/A Exposure preview 1 sec (the minimum as it is not relevant to auto shooting) Under t...

Any changes to HR in the Nov 17 version?
Hi Stas,
just noticed there is a HF version dated Nov 17, are there any changes to HR in this?, especially if they relate to Canon's

Re: Images has the same focal point
Hi Frank, I have the same problem with my 50D and the EF 100 2.8 macro, but only when I use HR in 'manual shoot' mode. In the auto shoot mode the focus steps work fine. One thing you might notice is that when you use the 'return to nearest focus point' HR does not always come back to the right spot,...

Maybe the same prob as my Canon 50D
Hi ExB53, just a long shot, but I discovered that if I still had mirror lock up set on my Canon, then HR did exactly what you describe (I mentioned it in a recent post). You might also have another custom setting that the camera would ignore in Live View mode, but upsets HR (this is the case with mi...

Non Focus stepping partially solved
Stas, partially good news. I discovered that if you have mirror lock up enabled, then HR in Auto mode: - does not perform the focus steps - writes the first image to the PC - the rest to the card on the camera OK so easily fixed by turning off Mirror lockup - however in Manual shot mode, the focus s...

Testing Helicon Remote
Dan/Stas Just downloaded V5, have a Pro licence. Am very excited about the Helicon Remote beta. Am using it with a Canon 50D, mostly it connects, allows settings etc but am having some problems getting it to do the focus steps when I start shooting. Where is the best place to post / discuss issues w...

Hi Tim, Yes, the light tent makes a big difference. Your necklace is also benefiting from reflections from the bust it is mounted on. Below is a basic set-up I use for the shots I posted (diamond rings etc are a lot trickier). Firstly though you used the term 'bulbs', do you mean fixed lighting not ...

Lighting needs some work
Hi Tim, I shoot jewellery professionally, I must say it is the most technically challenging photography I've done. Mostly I shoot diamond rings using a 100mm dedicated macro. Image stacking for DOF has certainly raised the bar on client expectations! The trick is to somehow make the object look 'rea...

Uploading now
Hi Dan, have started uploading to a new Folder called NancysShells. Expect it to take a couple of hours - about 200meg 2 zip files loaded, with 35 jpgs in each (no great difference in using these compared to the tiffs, which would have taken for ever to upload) File names describe their lineage DPP_...

Update to last post
Dan, Just noticed that in HF preferences-Auto adjust I had brightness set to 0%, which would not have hurt HF considering the exposure/brightness variations. Changed this and redid the test, also using highest interpolation 16x16. Whilst the result using the original images was much better, the resu...

HF and CZM combo a winner
Dan and others, I've been helping Nancy (peteschick) with her work with sea shells. Thought you might like to share something I've found. It seems that her biggest single problem was (is) significant variations in exposure, I suspect due to (fixed !) lighting fluctuations (which I have yet to solve ...
