Brigthness changes

I have been looking at a fly I found in a disused spider web. If i either expose correct or under expose in camera before inporting to helicon the white of the spider silk become over exposed. This happen with white flower too and result in a halow affect this image had to be adjucted in PSE after t...

Re: 250 Image limit

Some thing a little currious I have found is I get better performance from helicon using a darker background, maybe it just hides that bad bits better. whatever the case I have made some progress in the last few days between work and various other comitments heres a link https://www.flickr.com/photo...

Re: 250 Image limit

I am using a home made rail. the DoF is calculated by a deadicated floating point unit using the calcultions pointed out in another thread. here is a thread on the production so far, although it does need updating http://www.picaxeforum.co.uk/showthread.php?25093-A-heavy-Duty-macro-rail&highligh...

Re: 250 Image limit

Heres a 164 image test stack, still need to do some work on lighting, and try and reduce the halo, most likely by increasing the f-stop for 5.6 to 8 or greater. Need to work on focusing too, but I resonably happy with this 3rd test. rail seemed quite comfortable with 0.085mm steps over a 14mm depth ...

Re: 250 Image limit

hmm, I am using a 16GB card at the minuite, Highest quality jpeg it only holds 1000 images (give or take), Raw that drops considrbly, normally less than 400 (270 rings a bell for some reason). I am using a nikon D7100, with either the stock 18-55 of a 35-80 with extension tubes until i can aford a n...

Re: 250 Image limit

Lovely thanks Waiting on a ring light to hopefully improve results, there was some blurry-ness around some of the edges. I think it was due to poor lighting, I was using a tube of paper to reflect the on camera flash to where it was needed, worked quite well until I found it wouldn't charge any wher...

250 Image limit

Is the 250 image limit just on the lite version of Helicon? I have just run a 500 shot stack for the last stages of my macro rail development when I ran into this. The stack was taken over 22mm with a 0.05mm interval, semtrical DoF was calculated at 0.1mm - 50 % overlap. Will it be OK to stack just ...

Re: Hyperfocal setting

So provide an insight, post a link to some info. The only equations i get are the ones i already have. If we are all here to learn it does no good just saying things with little or in this case nothing to back up the statement. I have done some test measurement and all seem to indicate that every ti...

Re: Hyperfocal setting

Hyper focal is required for calculating DoF. The reason for it not being a accurate enough is the apps only run to a whole millimeter while most macro DoF is less than 1mm. heyper focal =(focallength^2)/(aperture*CoC) Focal length is in mm, so result is in mm, resultant sums should be in mm. So in t...

Re: Hyperfocal setting

As it so happens I ill be Working on one soon. And yes there are HF calculators for windows but they dont seem very accureate, most only going to the nearest mm, while my current rail is accurate to 0.15mm and the rail I am currently designing should be some where in the region of 0.00125mm, then la...

Re: Hyperfocal setting

I have never used remote, seeing as I have a windows phone I most likely wont, however I may be able to offer some help for any one with hyper focal, and apeture settings. As we all know the DoF is affected by appeture, focal length and distance of object from lense (this wont change with moving of ...

Re: Out-of-focus areas being incorporated in processed stack

I have been doing a little more experimenting and have found that, areas that either reflect more light or dont reflect as much light as other parts of the image seem to cause some of this. Taking shots in a darker area with a makeshift lense reflector (I think thats what they are called, the shinny...

Re: Out-of-focus areas being incorporated in processed stack

I have been playing around for a couple of nights between working and have found a similar affect. This is a stack of 50 shot over a 2cm distance using some close up filter on an 18-55 lense, f5, calculated DOF of 0.48mm. I used a home built macro rail (built from an old DVD RW) to move the bee. I w...
