Re: Workflow in Helicon Focus

I was actually hoping for a general set of guidelines from people that are doing macro, that go beyond the help file, but I can upload the stack. Is there something that tells me where the server is and how to upload to it?

Workflow in Helicon Focus

I bought the lite version of Helicon Focus after trying it for several weeks. I'm using Helicon Remote to creating the stacks with a Nikon D810 and either a 90mm macro, a 70-200 with extension tube, or a fairly close focusing 28-300... Creating the stacks is working pretty well as long as I can keep...

Re: Nikon Focusing Step Size

Thanks, Stas. This morning, I manually focused at the nearest point and the furthest point, and looked at the distance scale. Then made sure my number of units covered the near to far distance on the distance scale. For that particular stack, it was a distance of about "100", and the stack...

Nikon Focusing Step Size

I thought there was a topic somewhere in here that specified the focusing step size for cameras. I have a Nikon D810, and the preferences for the current version of Helicon Remote lists "15" as the focusing step size... A couple questions: Does the step size change with different lenses? I...

Re: Still Hanging

I've continued trying to use HF. It APPEARS to be something related to the total number of images opened... If I'm opening small stacks of 5 or 6 images, I seem to be able to get through a half dozen or so. If I'm opening larger stacks like 30 or so images, I appear to hang after every one. I can re...

Still Hanging

Windows 7 Professional, i7-920, 24GB of memory. PURCHASED and installed the new version of Helicon Focus Lite. Periodically, when I load a stack and hit render it hangs. Just starts spinning and there's never any progress. Have to kill HF and restart. It may happen on the second stack or the 10th, b...

Re: Intermittent problem saving output

I hope the new version comes soon... I"ve got 7 days left on the trial, and at this point I can't save the output at least half the time... Today, I'm getting the error: Failed to write image metadata: e:/20140705/2014-08-17_13-45-12 M=B R=2 S=2.tif: Failed to map file for reading and writing: ...

Re: First Impressions and questions

I've had problems with Photoshop too. I can get good stacks, but it involves a LOT of fiddling with layers and masks. Both Zerene and HF do a better job on their own from what I've seen. I liked Zerene Stacker, but their pricing is even more out-of-line than Helicon's. Unfortunately, Zerene got rid ...

First Impressions and questions

I've been playing with three tools for stacking - Photoshop CC 2014, Zerene, and HF6. I tried Combine ZP, but it crashed 100% of the time on anything larger than about 2048 on the longest side... HF seems to do a good job, although the depth map doesn't seem to work very well for what I typically sh...

Re: Intermittent problem saving output

I just tried one of the sets on my desktop. On the first save, it failed with the 'wremove' error. Hit "Save" again, and saved it again as a tif and it worked fine...... Bizarre... I tried attaching a zip with the 16 jpeg files I'm using, but it must be too large 'cause it never uploads..

Intermittent problem saving output

I just downloaded Helicon Focus to try. PC running Windows 7, i5-720, 16GB memory. Running HF directly. Put in a set of jpegs, render it. Works fine. Go to Saving. SOMETIMES it saves fine. Other times I get this: Failed to write image metadata: e:/20140531/2014-07-25_17-52-01 =M=B R=4 S=4.jpg Failed...

Re: Anyone using D800 with zoom and extension tubes?

Hm... Interesting. Does that mean the algorithm for the D2X, D300, and D4 WERE designed to work with extension tubes? They all work fine (I've used the D2X and D300, and been told the D4 works). Or just dumb luck that they work and unfortunate that the D800 doesn't?

Re: Anyone using D800 with zoom and extension tubes?

I've done some more testing...... It appears the D800 with a zoom and extension tube causes problems for the auto-focusing in HR, too. Pressing auto-focus, then touching a focus point causes the focus to rack back and forth, but it never locks where I've tapped. Without the extension tube, it locks ...
