I found this outside the kitchen yesterday. I had no idea such beetles even lived in Connecticut
Edit: I do not seem to be able to show the image. I go to Upload Attachment, Choose then Add the file, but nothing shows up.

Manual focussing
I am using a Nikon D5300, which loses all focussing and aperture control without a lens. I have used the 'show focussed' tool to manually change focus and create stacks with some success, though I am never certain if I have managed to get every layer included

Re: Best stacking method for protozoa
Thanks: interestingly each of the three methods is better in some parts of the image than others. However, Method C does seem to be the overall winner.

DOF lens correction factor
Is this unique for each lens, or would all lenses of the same type use the same correction factor? So, if I have a Nikon 105 macro lens, would all of them be the same? If yes, then maybe we could set up a list of the correction factor for most of the common lenses as a service to other users.

Best stacking method for protozoa
I am photography protozoa, which are basically transparent, and the resultant stacks are not as clear as I would like. Do any of you have experience with this, and do you haste any advice?
Many thanks

Thanks. At least I won't spend the next week figuring out what I was doing wrong.

Autofocus doesn't
While I normally use Stackshot, I decided to try focus stacking, to compare the results. After setting up, I click choose Autofocus, then click on the nearest point on the screen image. The camera briefly focusses on the chosen spot, then goes completely out of focus. Maybe I am missing a key step, ...

Re: Only one picture saved per stack
Okay: dumb mistake on my part. I renamed the folder and forgot to add a 'Counter' tag.

Only one picture saved per stack
I am using Remote with a Nikon D5300 and have designated that all pictures be downloaded to the computer and which folder to use. After the session is over only one picture is in the folder, the rest of the stack is not there, neither is it on the camera. Everything worked fine a week ago: I suspect...

Distance moved on stackshot
Not really a problem, just an inquiry. When shooting an object that is about 1cm deep, in order to focus on the top and then the bottom the camera moves almost the entire length of the rail (a lot more than 1 cm). I would have thought the two distances would be the same; maybe my understanding of th...

Re: Moving camera vs lens focus change
Is there a simple way to ensure that this is the case, other than eyeballing it?IgorDS wrote: Be sure to move parallel to the optical axis! Otherwise additional parallax problems will become apparent.

No image on screen
I have Helicon Remote connected to my Nikon D5300 and to Stackshot. When I start up, Stackshot is recognized but there is no way to know what the camera is seeing. Fast Preview is grayed out and neither Take Picture or Live view have any effect. I suspect I have missed some key step, but after going...

What are the pros and cons of letting Helicon Remote control the camera vs Stackshot?
