Re: Adobe Camera Raw workflow question
Using the RAW to DNG workflow, the ACR processed RAW files appear in HF 'as shot' ... without the adjustments applied in ACR. I assume this is because HF is working directly with only the pixel/photosite data. However, the ACR setting of the the last image (from its sidecar XMP file) are added to th...

Re: Bizarre behavior on one stack.
From what I have been able to discern about how HF deals with creation of the DNG output, HF uses EXIF data from the last image in the stack. Not sure if it uses the last in numerical order or stack order. The EXIF data does have info about color corrections made in, for example, Camera Raw. However...

Re: Bizarre behavior on one stack.
At the bottom of the file list, click the gear icon. Change the sort order.

Re: Bizarre behavior on one stack.
Are you shooting raw files? If so, try reversing the order of the stack.

Long output file names
The default names for the output image from a stack can get quite long. This is an example from my work: D85_5362-87_B,Radius10,Smoothing5.dng. The only thing I change is to assure that the number of both the first and last image are part of the output file name. These long file names do not work we...

Re: Time-Sensitive: Preserving original color in TIFs
PS has a 'Match Color' option under the Image, Adjustments menu. Open both; select your stacked image at the top of the dialog (Target image), the Original as the Source image at the bottom. You will see the change immediately. With your images I had to make a slight increase of color intensity slid...

Re: Helicon Focus 7.6.4 STILL crashing
For now, there may be no problem staking groups of 4-5 files, then stacking the several output files. I think Helicon can already handle a good deal of this with the split stacking feature.

Re: Helicon Focus 7.6.4 STILL crashing
I note that the ucrtbase.dll that triggers the error is located in your \system32 folder. The version number in the error report is not the same as the version on my Dell, which is 10.0.19041.423 dated 8/12/2020 at 1,021KB. (The version in my Helicon 7 folder is older and smaller. I moved this to a ...

Re: Helicon Focus 7.6.4 STILL crashing
I just ran a 26 image stack of D850 RAW files, then performed multiple retouchings. I had no problems. Quite fast actually ... I know this does not help you, but I have a few suggestions. First, be sure you have the latest video drivers. The web sites of most graphics card manufacturers have a utili...

Re: Helicon Focus 7.6.4 STILL crashing
A quick check with Google discovers a number of apparently rare issues with some software and this file. On my Windows 10 machine I find a copy in the Helicon folder, plus several others in the Windows system and WOW64 folders. The version numbers shown in the properties panel show some differences....

Re: Strange pattern in rendered DNG file
Pardon me for jumping in - This seems likely to be due to the X-Trans sensor's unusual 6x6 filter array in the raw image. (A lot of RAW software has this issue. There's a nice entry on Wikipedia.) This explains why your JPG works fine. A 16-bit TIF export might be a better choice to retain the dynam...

Re: How to determine the optimal interval size
You should use the sharpest aperture and let the stack build the DOF you need. For Nikon Z cameras and the Nikon 105mm, the camera's shift setting of 4 work well at 1:1 magnification even wide open. (I did a lot of tests!) Smaller steps for larger magnifications of course. Use the electronic shutter...

Re: .jpg vs .raw workflow question
HF has DNG output if you start with raw files. The only issue I have had is that using RAW, Helicon displays the embedded image data which does not reflect adjustments made in ACR. (These are in the companion XMP files.) However, after the DNG is saved, the XMP adjustments are applied, so the DNG lo...

Re: Shooting the moon: Simple question
Pardon me for jumping in ... since you have not had a reply. Helicon's primary job is stacking for focus depth, not mere stacks. It has a panorama mode under the Edit menu that might work for you. If you use Photoshop, selecting all images in your sequence and opening as layers with create a stack. ...
