ordering a split stack in version 6
sometimes i run a stack where the file numbering is reset in the middle of the run when i hit 9999. for example, i could have a stack beginning at 9900 and ending at 0100. in version 5 this was no problem. i could load the first half of the stack and then load in the second half. however, version 6 ...

Re: did 6.0 drop the invert or inverse selection command?
personally, *I* use it, because i do NOT want the largest image to determine the stack. i want the smallest image. when i stack on a rail, front to back, the final image contains distant detail and is too large to use as an initial image. in this case, i want it stacked ascending. when i stack using...

lightroom cannot export to HF6
i am using CC Lightroom 5 and the current version of HF6. if i try exporting less than 100 images everything is fine. but my computer usually crashes if i try exporting more than 100 processed raw images to Helicon Focus. if the computer does not crash, then Lightroom stalls out and gives me an erro...

version 5 problem, version 6 problem
i have uninstalled and reloaded version 5 several times, each time i cannot load directly from a folder into the app. the thumbnails do not appear in the loading window and when i try to put them into the application anyway i get an error message and HF becomes unstable. so i tried version 6. the pr...

problems with HF6
1) HF6 will not receive imports from LR5.3 2) HF6 does not appear to read the adjustments made to the raw CR2 files made in DNG exports from LR5.3. i think i will go back to HF5. this version did receive the LR5.3 imports. the only problem was that it did not delete them on closing and they have to ...

HF6 does not receive exports from LR5.3
the topic title says it all. i see two possible solutions: 1) de-install HF6 and re-install the old version. even though it stuck me with an ungodly pile of temp files, at least it works. i can delete the temps by hand now that i know what to look for. 2) export the LR output as DNG files into a des...

Re: temp files
i found a work-around that might be useful to anyone else with this problem. i searched for any file having the string "temp" in it. then i deleted the ones that also contained the string "helicon." probably not the most efficient method but it worked. i also downloaded version 6...

temp files
i am using the lightroom plugin to export to helicon focus, and i've noticed that my disk space is disappearing. how do i make absolutely sure that temp files are deleted when i shut hf down? my originals and final work are all stored on external drives, so i know that is not the problem.

Color Correction
is there any software out there that can "equalize" the color distributions between two otherwise identical images? this problem comes up when i'm running a stack and the cloud thickness changes or a haze goes over the sun. this can totally ruin a stack and it's impossible to make adjustme...

Re: How to clear the folder in HFocus ?
go into parameter mode. click the file tab and then choose "clear source list." this will not remove the files from your disk. it will just clear the links from hf. almost forgot to mention: you can then go to another folder and then "add new items" from wherever you want. it's m...

Re: Blurred parts
andrew, i looked at your image and it very closely resembles problems i have had while shooting outside in natural lighting. it usually happens around dark areas where there is glare. my suggestion first is to try all three composing methods. on a specific stack, sometimes one of them works much bet...

Re: Moving camera vs lens focus change
lens focus change works ok for larger subjects and a small aperture setting. but if you are working close to 1:1, forget it. your slices will leave out too much detail to compose a good image. you can get a focus rail cheaper than the RRS model from manfrotto, but the RRS one is much better made and...

Re: Blurred parts
have you tried the retouching process? sometimes the algorithm behaves oddly and you have to go in and do it by hand.

Re: determining the final image
start with the camera back far enough that nothing is in focus, and end with the camera forward far enough that no part of the subject is in focus. this is not as critical. an out-of-focus element of the subject in the background is not as critical as one that is in the foreground.
