There is no other help, sorry. We are preparing video tutorials but they are not ready yet. The idea is to make selections with selection brush first, then switch to Brightness or other tab and there at the right bottom corner you can select how to apply changes - to selected, not selected areas or whole image.

I keep trying to make selection but the guide mentions a combibox to selct or deselect different areas which I cannot see. is there a step by step guide that is more in depth than the help pages?
